Automatic or manual selection of the optimum current intensity
By default, the charger automatically determines the charging current based on the battery characteristics. It is also possible to set the intensity manually.
Selecting the battery type
Newell Smart C4 automatically detects the 4.2 V Li-ion and 1.48 V NiMH/NiCd battery type. LiFEP04 and Li-ion 4.35V batteries are not detected automatically. In order to charge these batteries, their type must be entered manually.
Measurement of internal resistance and cell capacity
Before charging, the device measures the internal resistance and estimates the capacity of the cell. Both values are displayed on the LCD display.
Professional capacity calculation
After the charging is completed, the display shows the estimated capacity of the battery. The charger also enables a more precise calculation of the capacity through the charging and discharging process (the function is available only on channel 4).
Protection against incorrect battery insertion and short-circuits and automatic stopping of the charge with a fully charged battery to avoid overcharging make the process safe and energy-saving.
Repair of over-discharged lithium-ion batteries
Most chargers are not able to charge over-discharged or 0V cells. Newell Smart C4 will attempt to reactivate and repair a lithium-ion battery when it detects such a cell. Unfortunately, cells discharged below a certain level are destroyed and may not be able to reactivate them.
